It seems to be the week for bands throwing in the towel, as it was just on Monday that we reported the demise of local disco-dudes Damn Arms and now word is out that LA party duo Guns n Bombs – who ITM caught up with back here – have officially split up.
Writing in a blog entry, the Guns n Bombs boys – Johnny Love and Filip Nikolic – revealed that they were hanging up the project for good. “Sometimes things don’t work out. We – Guns n Bombs – have broken up”.
The split should come as no surprise to those who caught the recent Guns n Bombs shows back in June, which were done solo by Johnny Love. Ahead of that tour Love opened up about Guns n Bombs’ impending doom, saying “I’ve moved on from Guns n Bombs already”. When questioned further about those comments, Love opened up to the Canberra Times, saying that “I think what we were doing was kind of flash in the pan, not really very memorable. It just doesn’t excite me anymore, really”.
Although the blog entry doesn’t cite any specific reasons for the split, we assume it has to do with Love and Nikolic “seeing things differently”, as Love put it back then. “The only way to put it is to say that one of us had their hearts in it, and one of us didn’t.”
Both halves of Guns n Bombs are already hard at work with their other projects, with Nikolic performing in electro-rock group Ima Robot and solo as Turbotito, while Love has started up a new dubstep-influenced project called Deathface.
