Over six years have passed since the last studio outing from Massive Attack, but it’s looking like the next chapter will be worth the wait. The collective’s fifth album has been bubbling away for a while now, with an expected release date of early 2010. True to form, there will be a fine roll-call of vocalists on board.
As reported by Massive Attack’s fan-site, a ‘source’ has revealed the contributing players include Gorillaz and Blur mastermind Damon Albarn, TV On The Radio’s Tunde Adebimpe, Hope Sandoval of Mazzy Star and Tricky foil Martina Topley Bird. In an interview with BBC Music, Elbow chief Guy Garvey confirmed he has written a song for the album, to be performed by Topley Bird. “It’s a bit of a dream come true to have Martina singing my words on a Massive Attack song,” he said.
While there’s been no official verification of guests from the band, a few teasers will no doubt be revealed when they return to UK stages in September. The potential for surprise appearances is certainly ripe.
