Ahead of their debut Australian tour as a part of this year’s Parklife festival, Canadian synth-rockers Metric have been slogging across the big festivals of the European summer. It was after their successful show at Glastonbury that the quartet of Canucks decided to check out the original rave destination itself, Stonehenge.

But in a stroke of luck for both Metric and fans of decades-long satire gags, the band ran into faux-metal squad Spinal Tap, who were visiting the venue that caused them so much grief in their 1984 mockumentary, This Is Spinal Tap.

Writing on the band’s blog, Metric leader Emily Hanes gave a rundown of their chance meeting with the legends behind classics such as Sex Farm and Tonight I’m Going To Rock You Tonight. “We were staring at the stones through the fence and halfheartedly watching various generic families wander toward their cars when [drummer] Joules said the words we will remember forever: ‘Um, guys, that’s … Spinal Tap’,” the singer enthused. “We descended upon them immediately.”

The band managed to catch up with Spinal Tap bassist, Derek Smalls (the inimitable Harry Shearer) who revealed that he and the ‘Tap were “just making their way back to London when they spotted the source of their most memorable joke in the distance and decided this would be the time to see the full-scale version.”

We’re pretty sure that nothing in the world could actually top going to Stonehenge with Spinal Tap. It’s probably the coolest thing in the whole world, really.
