New York marvels Beastie Boys have made a video for fans, announcing Adam ‘MCA’ Yauch has been diagnosed with cancer. The man himself appears alongside Ad-Rock in the video message, calmly and candidly announcing he has a cancerous tumour in his left parotid gland and that thankfully, it is treatable.
“I’m going to have to have surgery, probably next week,” MCA says, “It’s a bit of a setback, a pain in the arse – but this is something that’s very treatable and in most cases they’re able to completely get rid of it. They’ve caught it early and it’s not anywhere else in my body – so that’s the good news.”
As a result, Beastie Boys have cancelled all shows for the immediate future – including major US festivals Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits and All Points West. The release of their eighth studio album Hot Sauce Committee Pt. 1 (which we revealed back here) has also been pushed back from its planned 15 September release date.
