When it was first announced we admit we were a little skeptical about the Guitar Hero spinoff, DJ Hero, but looking back we don’t know what we were worried about! The game itself looks fantastic, with loads of impressive visuals and characters and the DJ Hero developers over at Activision clearly know have an appreciation for DJ culture, recruiting the deck-technicians like DJ Shadow, Z-Trip and Cut Chemist to lend their mixing skills to the game.
After announcing that hip-hop icon Grandmaster Flash would also be a part of DJ Hero, it’s now been revealed that another club legend is on board; DJ Jazzy Jeff!
The DJ, whose legacy dates back to the foundations of hip-hop when he was working with The Fresh Prince (aka Will Smith), spoke out to AllHipHop.com about his involvement in DJ Hero, revealing that he’s made some exclusive mixes – blending tracks from Tears For Fears, LL Cool J and Eric B & Rakim – for the game as well as being a playable character.
“To have a song in DJ Hero is a dream come true; to be a character someone can pick up the controller and select you and play is probably the biggest thing to happen to me in my career. Music is so much a part of everyone’s life, DJ Hero is going to appeal to almost everybody,” DJ Jazzy Jeff said.
We’re excited to hear that a legend like Jazz is lending his style to DJ Hero, and we’re even more excited to get our hands on the game when it hits streets this October. If you’re like us and you just can’t wait, take a gander at some in-game footage and our extensive image galleries from the DJ Hero launch party in Hollywood below!
