We put the word out the other week that terrific Canadian retro-funkers Chromeo would be contributing the next mix for !K7’s revered DJ-Kicks mix series and we were pretty damn excited about it because we’re suckers for the duo’s talk-box obsessed style. Now we’ve got another reason to be happy about !K7’s choice of mix curators as the complete tracklisting for Chromeo’s mix has arrived.
Alongside Chromeo’s easy-listening cover of The Eagles’ I Can’t Tell You Why are synth-pop gems from the likes of Chateau Marmont, Lifelike and Bang Gang golden-child Shazam, not to mention some truly obscure records from Shotgun, France Joli and the Rick James helmed Val Young.
Tracklisting:
1. Kano: “Ikeya-Seki”
2. Pierre Perpall: “J’aime Danser Avec Toi”
3. Toba: “Moving Up”
4. France Joli: “Gonna Get Over You”
5. Donna Allen: “Serious”
6. Lovelock: “Maybe Tonight”
7. Chateau Marmont: “Solar Antapex Rework”
8. Val Young: “Seduction”
9. Soupir: “Larmes de Métal”
10. Lifelike: “Sequencer”
11. Carmen: “Time to Move”
12. Shotgun: “Don’t You Wanna Make Love”
13. Cheri: “Murphy’s Law!”
14. Leo Sayer: “Easy to Love”
15. Shazam: “Luckier”
16. Chromeo: “I Can’t Tell You Why”
17. Diane Tell: “Tes Yeux”
18. The Alan Parsons Project: “Pipeline”
Whilst it probably won’t appeal to German techno purists that follow the DJ-Kicks series, that tracklist looks like a thoroughly eclectic and enlightening mix from Chromeo, and we await its September release with our ears opened wide.
