After news broke that Brooklyn psychedelic types, MGMT would be contributing to rap mogul Jay-Z’s upcoming The Blueprint 3 – which made it onto our Questionable Collaboration Countdown, no less! -, we were pretty sure that said album couldn’t get much stranger. But the Jigga man sure showed us. News just in is that Jay-Z has enlisted Empire Of The Sun mastermind Luke Steele for a collaboration on the new album.
According to UK raggers The Sun, Jay-Z has been digging Empire Of The Sun’s style for some time now and convinced Steele to make a vocal contribution to The Blueprint 3. Indeed, the Sun alleges (we say ‘alleges’ because this could very easily be phony tabloid speculation) that the result of the collaboration is so stellar that Hova’s going to place it as the lead track on the upcoming record.
As previously reported, The Blueprint 3 is already shaping up to be a star-stuffed affair, with the likes of Kanye West, Rihanna, Timbaland, Kid Cudi and MGMT all lined up for guest spots, so if nothing else, Empire Of The Sun will be in good company.
If the story is true and Empire Of The Sun have indeed hooked up with Jay-Z we think it’s actually pretty cool that an international icon like Jay-Z would recognize the obvious talents of a charismatic Australian act.
