Back in July, ITM revealed that Parklife electro pinups, Metric, would be collaborating with renowned club slayer turned band-man, Adam Freeland, on a mysterious collection of new remixes. We thought it was a pretty nifty coup for the indie-dance quartet to secure the production smarts of someone like Freeland, and eagerly anticipate the fruits of the partnership. Yet as it turns out, Metric aren’t the only ones working with the British heavyweight, as iconic new wavers Devo have also tapped Freeland for a smattering of tracks to make their next album.
ITM got the scoop straight from the horse’s mouth when chatting to Freeland about his most recent record, Cope, which featured some vocal input from Devo mainstay Gerry Casale. “Gerry was singing on a couple of the album tracks, and that’s how we ended up getting involved together,” Freeland explained. “He’s completely crazy, but in an awesome way. We’ve become really good friends through working together and now I’m producing a few tracks for their new album…it feels kind of bizarre that I get to work with them,” the producer admitted with a laugh.
With Freeland now on board for recording, the long-delayed new Devo album looks to be getting ever bigger and better, if that was even possible. Cast your mind back to when we let loose the news that the Whip It rockers had already enlisted the likes of Fatboy Slim, LCD Soundsystem disco wizard James Murphy and French electro princes Justice to guide the record. If it all comes together, this could be one huge comeback album!
