It was with giddy, beaming grins that we announced the news that iconic UK trip-hoppers Massive Attack were set to emerge from their far-too-long hiatus with a new tour and a new album due out in 2010. Now word is out that we won’t have to wait until next year for some new Massive Attack material, with a brand new EP ready for release this October 2nd!

The EP, entitled Split The Atom is the first new offering from Massive Attack since their library-filling Greatest Hits package, Collected, from 2006. As with any Massive Attack release, the group have recruited some fine vocal talent including frequent collaborator Horace Andy for the title track, as well as TV On The Radio’s Tunde Adebimpe on Pray For Rain. Elsewhere on the EP the band have hooked up with Martina Topley-Bird on Psyche and Elbow’s Guy Garvey for Bulletproof Love both of which will come in remixed forms, tweaked by techno wonders Van Rivers & The Subliminal Kid and Christoff Berg respectively.

Tracklist:

1. Splitting The Atom
2. Pray For Rain
3. Psyche (Van Rivers & The Subliminal Kid Remix)
4. Bulletproof Love (Christoff Berg Remix)

ITM will be hanging out for the release of the new EP and what insights it gives us into Massive Attack’s long-awaited fifth LP, so be sure to stay tuned right here!
