While our homies over at FasterLouder have been in a spin about the reunion of Brit-pop heroes Blur, we’ve been waiting patiently for news on Damon Albarn’s other band, the cartoon supergroup Gorillaz. Last heard from back in 2005 (blimey!) with their stellar Demon Days record, studio news from Gorillaz has been scant in the proceeding years. Until now that is.
As it turns out, Albarn and co-conspirator Jamie Hewlett have been squeezing in work on the third, eternally-delayed Gorillaz LP, even recruiting initial guest stars, including UK goth-shockers gone no-wavers The Horrors.
In an interview with BBC 6Music, Rhys Webb of the British miscreants revealed that he and his fellow Horrors have been lending a hand to the record. Apparently Albarn was taken with the band’s new album Primary Colours and personally pursued them.
“He got a copy of it really early, contacted us completely out of the blue and told us how much he liked it,” Webb told BBC. “We went down to the studio and he said, ‘We’re working on the new album and we’ve not collaborated with a guitar band before and your album is one of the most exciting things I’ve heard in a long time. Would you be up for working on a track?’”
S
o for those keeping score at home, that’s both The Horrors and former Feel Good Inc. rappers De La Soul down for the next Gorillaz record, the latter of whom confirmed their appearance on two tracks back in May. Stay tuned to ITM for more juicy info as we get it!
