Michael Jackson is already getting ‘tribute’ remixes, people are (literally) losing their heads outside Ministry of Sound, and Tiesto is going crunk ; it’s been a weird week for news, hasn’t it? But thankfully, here’s some ‘awww’-inducing news to combat all the oddball stories that’ve come our way; longtime Everything But The Girl partners Ben Watt and Tracey Thorn have tied the knot, after a lengthy 27 year courtship.
The Buzzin’ Fly Records boss and Thorn have been partners in and out of the studio since forming Everything But The Girl back in 1982, even raising three children together in that time, but were never officially married until now.
The announcement was made in typical low-key EBTG fashion within a recent blog entry from Thorn, who was dispelling rumours of the couple’s split due to the bleak themes of her upcoming solo LP.
“The truth is that not only have I not got divorced this year, I have in fact got married. Yes, you do know who to,” Thorn wrote. “A twenty seven year engagement may seem cautious to some of you, but I think in these uncertain times, it is as well to be sure of someone before you make any rash commitments.”
There’s definitely a lesson to heed in all this, if you’re getting ready to make a big decision, maybe just wait it for a few decades. It’s worked for Watt and Thorn, hasn’t it? As much as we wanted an ITM speed boat, we’ll just hold off for now. In the meantime, we’ll wait in the wings for more news on Thorn’s second solo album, a highly anticipated record following 2007’s Out Of The Woods which featured hook ups from Ewan Pearson and The Rapture.
