If you think about it, Daft Punk must be closet-geeks. Sure, they’re renowned for creating some of the straight-up coolest electronic music in the world and they’re packing plenty of street-heat thanks to the slew of rappers sampling their tracks, but deep down, they must be major nerds. After all, Daft Punk are the act that indulged their cinephile tendencies with both Interstella 5:55 and Electroma and they’re also scoring the mouth-watering Tron Legacy feature film. They’re geeks. But thankfully, we’re geeks too. So you can imagine how quickly we reached for our inhalers this morning when we found out that our favourite pair of French robots, Daft Punk, would be appearing in the upcoming DJ Hero!

Already boasting big name contributions from DJ royalty such as DJ Jazzy Jeff, DJ Shadow, Z-Trip, Tiesto and Grandmaster Flash, the inclusion of Daft freakin’ Punk in DJ Hero is pretty much the icing on the cake. To make things even more exciting, DJ Hero’s developers Activision have announced that Daft Punk have lent their iconic images to in-game characters, as well as preparing a host of head-turning mixes for players to master. Check out the list of mixes and mash-ups courtesy of Daft Punk below.

> Daft Punk “Around the World” vs. Young MC “Bust A Move”
> Daft Punk “Da Funk” vs. NASA “Strange Enough ft. Karen O, ODB and Fatlip”
> Daft Punk “Da Funk” vs. Queen “Another One Bites the Dust”
> Daft Punk “Robot Rock” vs. Hashim “Al-Naafiysh (The Soul)” – Produced and mixed by The Scratch Perverts
> Daft Punk “Robot Rock” vs. Queen “We Will Rock You”
> Daft Punk “Short Circuit” vs. Boogie Down Productions “Jack Of Spades”
> Daft Punk “Technologic” vs. Gary Numan “Cars”
> Daft Punk “Television Rules The Nation” vs. No Doubt “Hella Good”

“Partnering with Daft Punk is a rare opportunity in any medium and we are extremely honored to have worked with them so closely on integrating into DJ Hero in such a compelling way,” gushed Tim Riley, Vice President of Music Affairs for Activision’s other musical franchise Guitar Hero. “This is the first time in a video game that fans will have this kind of direct interaction with Daft Punk while also experiencing never-before-released mixes that feature some of their most popular tracks. It’s amazing working with Daft Punk as they are the quintessential electronic music act known around the world for their unique style and music.”

The ITM office had a remarkably similar reaction to the DJ Hero news, except ours was with more cartwheels and tears of joy. We’ve also been transfixed by the first images of Daft Punk’s involvement in DJ Hero which you can check out in the gallery below along with some other tasty-looking in game shots.
