It would seem as though nobody’s immune to the global economic downturn, as a member of jet-setting UK dance-rockers Friendly Fires was recently involved in a tussle with Brazilian police after skipping out on their hefty bar tab in the South American party paradise.

According to UK dance portal Data Transmission, Friendly Fires frontman Ed Macfarlane recently opened up about the band’s Brazilian rumble, confessing that drummer Jack Savidge had met with the strong arm of the law.

“They have this stupid system where they give you a credit card when you turn up, you buy drinks with this credit card and then pay when you leave, so basically spend loads of money that you don’t have,” Macfarlane explained. “Jack basically didn’t have enough money to pay for any of his drinks and decided to do a runner for it,” the frontman said.

“He got through the door, got ‘round one corner, got ‘round another one, pegged it down the street then two Brazilian police caught him and slammed him pretty hard on the floor. And then they threw him back in the club, which was probably the worst thing about it, because the club was horrible it was playing really bad music”.

Ouch, right? No word if Friendly Fires put into practice any similarly skint techniques whilst they were out here for Splendour In The Grass in July, but we suggest they petition for a raise in their allowance.
