In a prescient move over the weekend, thousands of Parklife revelers showered UK electro don Erol Alkan with a tidal wave of love and adulation in response to the DJ’s flawless mix that blended disco, techno, electro and everything in between. Confirming that Erol is not just the king of Parklife but also the UK DJ scene, readers of Britain’s dance portal Data Transmission have recently voted Alkan as their country’s number one DJ.

Data Transmission’s annual poll of The UK’s Top 40 DJs is sort of like the British cousin to ITM’s own Sony inthemix50, collecting votes from club-going readers to crown the country’s favourite DJ (from an international field, no less), and the public unanimously voted Alkan into the top spot, despite any self-promotion from the man himself! It’s the second consecutive win for Alkan and he sounded well chuffed when speaking about the win.

“It’s very flattering, and it obviously means something ‘cos people have voted, and I’m extremely surprised as I didn’t actually canvas for it either so it’s quite sweet…and yeah, I’m very flattered and charmed that people took time out to vote for me,” he said. “In a nutshell, all I want to do is just inspire people through music and there are a different number of ways of doing that – and I just hope it’s working, and that people are getting inspired through the music.”

You can read the full interview with Erol over at Data Transmission and scope out the full results of the list below, as they offer up an interesting insight into the UK DJ circuit, spotlighting the rise of dubstep with Skream’s entry and the enduring dominance of holdover acts like Above & Beyond , Sasha and Armin Van Buuren. Meanwhile, lucky locals can catch the UK club overlord himself at the remaining Parklife dates, at his select Erol Alkan/Disco 3000 sideshows or in digital form right here on ITM!

I think the fact that Hernan Cattaneo and Danny Howells are so far down the list just highlights the fact of how much bullshit these polls are. Or how about the fact that Jody Wisternoff isn't even on there?

the only poll which has any credibility and talent to it would have to be RA.
