Parisian electro-poppers turned garage rockers Phoenix have come full circle in 2009, releasing a triumphant fourth LP, Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, that refined and condensed the competing styles of their previous work into one magnificent crossover beast. Not content to let anyone forget said record, the French four piece are giving it another push, readying a brand new remix album.
As announced on indie portal Pitchfork the remixed version of Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix will hit streets (physical and digital that is) before the end of October, and looking over the tracklist, it definitely looks the business. Lined up for remix duties are artists from all different arenas, including fabled dance producers like Alex Metric, Turzi and Boombass of Cassius fame, as well as hyped up indie-dance acts like Passion Pit and Friendly Fires and some left-of-centre choices such as Devendra Banhart, Animal Collective and Yacht. With a lineup like that, we reckon this one remix album we might actually love, and it sounds about one million times better than that Kings Of Leon remix collection.
At ITM we’re still crossing our collective fingers in hopes for a Phoenix tour this summer, as the band personally expressed their plans to return to Australia for a festival next year. Surely they’d be perfect for the Big Day Out second announcement, yeah?
While we wait for any news, check out the Friendly Fires take on Fences in the clip below. It’s got a distinct acid vibe to it, to the point where we reckon ol’ Peter Hook might’ve spun it in his Hacienda days (…were it on a mix CD).
