Those dastardly dudes over in the Massive Attack camp just love to tease us, don’t they? For months they’ve been dropping hints about their forthcoming fifth LP, the band’s first since 2003, and also hinting that they would be making the intercontinental trek out to Australian shores early next year, drumming fans up into a frenzy of anticipation. Now they go and announce that (even before the record is complete, no less) enigmatic dubstep hero Burial will be adding his own unique stamp to their new material.
The inspired pairing of Burial with the enduring electronic innovators Massive Attack was apparently born of some mutual admiration between the two acts, with the trip-hop pioneers crushing hard on Burial’s brand of icy dubstep.
“We’ve been listening to a lot of the stuff that he does and he’s just amazing. The way he does his layers, his drums and stuff like that,” Massive Attack’s Daddy G told ClashMusic. “I don’t know if I should really say this…What the plan is… you know that Mad Professor record that we did? Essentially trying to get that together, where Burial essentially remixes quite a lot of the new tracks. Brings out a different version of quite a lot of the tracks that we’ve done,” he explained.
Holy awesome, Batman! Daddy G didn’t stop there, going on at length about the group’s love for the rising genre. “The dubstep thing is amazing, there’s a lot of really good people there – Kode9 is great as well. These kids are just amazing and we want to be part of that”.
Now if they could just release the damn record already!
