Currently in the thick of his latest Australian club onslaught, LA party king Steve Aoki seems to be unrelentingly busy all of the time. In between his tricked-out global tours and label responsibilities as head honcho of Dim Mak, Aoki somehow manages to squeeze in a great deal of studio time, which has up to now resulted in a wave of floor-ready remixes and the occasional single. Yet when ITM got the man himself on the blower ahead of his Australian visit, Aoki revealed that the production work he’s been putting in is all leading up to his debut artist album.

Making the great leap of faith over to a full artist album sometime next year, Aoki told inthemix that he’s feeling confident in these early stages about where the full length is going to go, noting that he’s opened it up to a host of collaborations with friends and idols alike.

“I think it’s going to be a pretty interesting record,” he explained. “It’s going to be heavy with features, and I’ve already got a few artists in on it like Zuper Blahq (that’s the masked moniker for Black Eyed Peas electro-head will.i.am) and I’ve just finished up a track with [Good Vibes visitor] Kid Cudi.”

With a varied lineup of guests, the jury is out on any particular style the record might fit into, with Aoki confirming that he’s pushing his stylistic boundaries. “I’ve done a track for the record with Daft Punk regular] Romanthony, and that’s kind of a big house track,” Aoki explained. “But I want to do other stuff that nobody would expect, like work with a completely different artist than people would think of. I think it’s going to be really fun.”

Steve Aoki and "house" are words that never should be used in the same sentence.

@hailtothechimp: What if the sentence is "Steve Aoki, get out of my house."?

Regardless of the production work itself, im glad Electronic musicans are starting to do albums again. Even though I'm in the house is incredibly cheesey and uninteresting, i'll still watch Aoki with great interest, he knows how to run a successful label

it seems to be cool in music you have to be underground and not sell out...if it sounds good shut up!!! Steve Aoki was redic awesome in Canberra and seemed like a good bloke sticking around after to talk to fans and crowd surfing a tiny club like Lot33

hopefully electro house will start getting played on the radio enough that its not considered dance music anymore so inthemix don't post any more articles about it
