Because the world needs some more half-baked musicals it’s come to light that pioneering hip-hop group Run-DMC are set to follow in the lofty footsteps of Queen and, uh, ABBA, and see their career turned into a lavish musical.
According to hipster authority FACT Magazine, Rev Run and DMC, the surviving members of Run DMC, have begun developing a Broadway treatment of their career (which will undoubtedly go under same dreadful name like It’s Like That: The Story Of Run-DMC) with producer Paula Wagner.
“This project has been a passion of mine for some time and I couldn’t be more thrilled to be working with them,” Wagner explained. “I feel their story lends itself perfectly to the stage. Who they are and what they did was a culturally defining moment. It embraced everybody. Their rise to fame is innately theatrical. It speaks to everybody.”
Having seen and cringed at Rev Run’s reality TV project Run’s House we’re not exactly filled with that much confidence for the upcoming musical, but all we can do is sit back and watch in horror as iconic acts take a sledgehammer to their credibility. Next up, One Man, Two CDJs & One Dream: The Tiesto Journey.
