Tiesto wants to produce MGMT and The Killers

It’s been a bumpy ride for Tiesto die-hards in 2009, with the trance kingpin testing the resolve of his fans with a series of eclectic career moves that have seen him collaborate with the likes of Dizzee Rascal and BDO rockers Muse, not to mention his indie-leaning artist album Kaleidoscope.

By now we reckon some fans would be praying for Tiesto to keep his mouth shut for a little while, but that doesn’t look to be on the cards, with Tiesto recently announcing his desires to continue down his collaborative path and work with the likes of MGMT and Good Vibes headliners The Killers.

As reported by Data Transmission and Tilllate, Tiesto dropped the curveball (though we’re not sure what to expect from the guy these days!) in a recent interview, explaining that he has craved the freedom to follow the creative pull away from the trance scene. “I want to be the biggest indie band producer in the world. I want bands like MGMT and The Killers to come to me with their new albums and ask me to produce them. That’s the dream.”

In a bid to attain said artistic freedom, the Dutch producer has decided to splinter from his renowned Black Hole Recordings imprint, to set a brand new record label, Musical Freedom.

“I always had my own label with Black Hole Recordings, but I wanted to move on, and the only way you can do that is to start all over again,” he said. “Because it’s a whole new point in my career, I wanted to be 100% in control of a new label too. Black Hole was a 50/50 partnership and I think I lost a bit of control with it towards the end, to be honest. I’m going to do whatever I feel like with Musical Freedom. I’m going to put out the music I like.”

As eccentric as these moves seem to be, looking at the broader picture one has to commend Tiesto for his actions. By striking out as he’s done, Tiesto’s keenly ensured he’ll have creative challenges ahead of him, refusing to stagnate in his past successes. We just hope it works!

Nobody has hearted this, be the first Be the first!

As much as I don't like the recent moves from a trance standpoint, I must commend him for striving for new things.

An indie producer by working with MGMT and The Killers? Hard to think of two bands that would further diminish a producer's credibility.

Good on him, chasing what he wants to do - why continue doing something just to please all his trance die-hard fans? If he is 'bored' of the trance scene, no point in continuing if you're not interested...

Maybe he should learn to actually produce anything first, rather than have other engineers/producers do it for him. That would be a start.

he'll lose a few trance fans - although he has sold out quite a few 2010 shows, so I don't think he is worried, I think he will gain a lot more anyway by crossing over to the indie scene. Good on ya Tiesto...

If all you f*ckwits were in the same job for the last 15-20 years then you would probably want to try something new aswell. But heaven forbid if someone in the music industry crosses genres.

Unless a band was like "OK lets make the shittest album ever, that would be awesome!!" Then I highly doubt anyone would want Tiesto to be their producer. Especially after coming out with this exceptionally shit "crossover" record. He should stick to makin

Who cares if he is crossing genres? The problem is the two bands he wants to work with. Working with The Killers or MGMT is always going to have sellout written all over it.

I hope he truely get freedom from this, not to have much trance vibes in his new productions. I think he just needs to start with a few smaller peeps first up so as not to wreck anything like most of his last album! haha i have faith though.

It's one thing to want to do something different, quite another though to use his name to cross over. He should produce indy under a different name and the the production speak for itself rather than expect people to buy [that sh*t] thinking that it's Tie

I agree - if you really want to see if work, use an alias. so far, I havent been that impressed with the music itself. The concept is beautiful - but the music hasnt moved me :( Shame.. All personal though. Might be different in a live situation howe
