ITM have been quietly buzzing about UK lads Delphic for the last few months, and with good reason. The group effortlessly blend euphoric dance-pop production with some broody flourishes, kind of like the spiritual successors to fellow Manchester peeps New Order. We’re not the only ones impressed with their style, with the tastemakers over at Modular and Kitsune championing the young group, not to mention beloved producer Ewan Pearson who’s been producing Delphic’s debut album.
According to FACT, the record, entitled Acolyte, was recorded in Pearson’s Berlin studio (where he oversaw the recent Lost Valentinos album as well) and should see the light of day on January 11th in the UK and hopefully soon after that down here.
“A lot of dance albums you search out the singles but the rest is all a bit samey and boring. We wrote the album as a whole and weren’t afraid to lower the tempos and concentrate on the songs,” said ridiculously named band leader Matt Cocksedge.
We put the band on our big Summer Hitlist countdown earlier this year, predicting that the band would more than likely make their Australian debut as a part of Modular’s breathlessly anticipated Nevereverland festival. The label’s still keeping quiet about that, but expect to see them sooner rather than later, we reckon.
