The rockier parts of our hearts have always held a warm little place for dance friendly UK dudes Bloc Party, and as such it was interesting to hear news last week that the band’s firebrand ringleader Kele Okereke would be venturing out on his own for a solo album.
That news has just got a little more interesting as FACT Magazine reports that Okereke will be indulging his dance leanings on the side project, enlisting the services of club favourites Spank Rock and Stereosonic whiz Hudson Mohawke.
Speaking to UK outlet Teletext, Hudson Mohawke gave the early word on the record, letting slip he’s contributing some beats. “It hasn’t been finalised yet, but I’m doing a bit of stuff for the album. He [Okereke]’s doing the record with one of the guys from Spank Rock.”
Come to think of it, we’re not terribly surprised to hear about Okereke’s club re-direction. When you take into account Bloc Party’s penchant for releasing companion remix albums filled with reworks from the likes of Erol Alkan, Ladytron, and Armand Van Helden, not to mention Okereke’s recent collaboration with heavy-hitter Tiesto, it all makes perfect sense.
