It’s no secret that Italian electro stallions The Bloody Beetroots have reached that lofty level of crazily in-demand DJs since bursting onto the scene just a couple of years ago, just look at the love Australian audiences have been giving them, forcing the duo to back up their turbo charged June/July club tour with a slot on this month’s epic Stereosonic festival. Australian fans should savour the Beetroots’ sets on the Stereosonic tour though, as news is out that the DJ duo of Bob Rifo and Tommy Tea have plans to overhaul their act in 2010.
Speaking to CentroMusica and SaintWoods recently, Rifo himself opened up about his plans to take The Bloody Beetroots’ gigs in a new direction, confirming that 2010 will find the band plugged in and fully live.
“Next year we’ll be touring live,” Rifo explained. “Bloody Beetroots play punk electro. But we’re evolving into a new live format with more real instruments on stage. So it’s getting more hybrid. I’ll be playing guitar, bass and keyboards, there’ll be a drummer and Tommy on stage too.”
Whilst Rifo declares that the identity of the newly found third Beetroot is ‘still top secret’, that didn’t stop him dropping a few enigmatic hints at their background.
“The third beetroot is an Italian drummer who can be seen in the scruffiest East Coast basements in the U.S. between November and January,” he said before presumably having the word ‘vague’ tattooed on his palm.
Before this proposed live rebirth though, The Bloody Beetroots will hit Australian turf for what we’re certain will be a decimating run of Stereosonic shows. To stay up to date with all ITM’s coverage, just check out our Steresonic festival page. You won’t regret it.
