UK breaks heavies Stanton Warriors are kicking off their ‘Stanton Sessions’ tour of Australia this weekend, and if you’ll be heading along to get your groove on then you can expect to hear some extremely fresh broken beats. They’ve been putting the finishing touches on their long-awaited new artist album, and they say they’ll be packing them like weapons for their shows over the next two weeks.
“It’s quite exciting,” Dominic told ITM. “Because even though we had our Lost Sessions album that was tagged as part of a mix comp, in essence this is our first stand-alone artist album. It’s been a long time coming. Not only are we excited about the fact that we have all this new music, we’re excited about the fact we’ve actually fucking done it,” he laughed.
“It’s been a long time coming. It’s a new chapter in our lives, and it’s something that’s gonna show people what our new sound is, where we’re coming from and our ‘CV’, so to speak, a testament to what we’re about.”
It was something that they spoke about way back in late ‘08, prior to their tour with Good Vibrations when the album was still in its establishing stage. But even then, there was a wild assortment of different sounds being thrown on top of the broken beats. “We’ve got a Mongolian Monk record on there, with some crazy-ass percussive samples. We’ve got some Polish funk from the Communist 50s era out of Warsaw which has the most incredible Daft Punk style samples we ripped off. We’ve got some Mexican folk music we sampled when we were over in California that we found in a record shop. We just looped them up and made these amazing hooks, and put some beats underneath them.” Wowsers.
