Can you silence a silent rave? Regardless of word play, Indian authorities are going to try just that, vowing to crackdown on silent raves in the party haven of Goa.
The news comes with the announcement that Indian police Superintendent Atmaram Deshpande and his law enforcement crew are expecting more drugs and more raves in Goa as the tourist season gets underway.
Promising a renewed crack down against drug mafias in the state, he also suggested canny party organizers are attempting to evade noise regulations by issuing revellers with headphones and broadcasting via wi-fi though promised to bust such events even if they disturb no-one.
“I have been to such rave parties some time back, in Arambol and Morjim which are popular beaches in north Goa, where such wireless equipment was used,” the CID chief told Indian news portal THAindian.com. “But we can still stop them if they are organised in public areas like a beach,” he promised.
Superintendent Deshpande singled out Russians, Africans and Indians as being the principal groupings involved in Goa’s drug trade while a report on press agency AFP singled out Russians and the British in particular.
One Goa party that will hopefully avoid any complications this December is the epic Sunburn festival, which ITM ranked #11 on our big Global Party Countdown a few weeks ago. With the likes of Armin van Buuren and Roger Sanchez headlining, the festival will hopefully make up for the horror run that party-goers have had this year.
