Now we knew that the live show from Norwegian livewires and upcoming Field Day visitors Datarock was energetic – frequently involving dancing tomfoolery and bare-chested fun – but this might be taking things too far. News has emerged that a recent live outing for the party starting disco-rockers ended in tragedy when their drummer broke his leg midway through the band’s set.
Clearly channeling local leg breakers Bluejuice, Datarock broke the news on their blog, revealing that while skinsman Adrian Meehan was getting into the swing of things on stage, something went ‘terribly wrong’.
“Datarock’s long term drummer and co-producer, Adrian Meehan (aka Reverend Breverend) gave it all he had on stage yesterday,” the group wrote. “Absurdly, after the end of his most physical shtick, just before he’s supposed to sit down and bang the drums, something goes terribly wrong. He was rushed off in an ambulance straight to the Inn City Hospital in Birmingham. They confirmed a double spiral fracture in his right ankle and he’s to undertake surgery Sunday the 21st.”
Being bang in the middle of the internet age, the drummer’s unfortunate accident was of course recorded and subsequently uploaded to the band’s YouTube page. You can watch it below, and although we’re not exactly sure what caused the breakage, there’s a distinct snapping at around the 2.40 mark…
Whilst Meehan’s holed up in a hospital bed, the rest of the band have surged forth, fulfilling their tour commitments with a ringer drummer, who’ll presumably accompany the group on their Australian tour over summer. Meanwhile, drummer Meehan will likely spend his downtime going all Liam Neeson-style bad arse, hunting down and killing whoever it was who told the drummer to ‘break a leg’ before the fateful show.
