Damon Albarn has revealed the guest line up of the long awaited follow-up to Gorillaz’ 2005 Demon Days album. The record, named Plastic Beach after the littered shoreline near Albarn’s home in Devon, is reportedly nearing compleation and is due for release before March next year.
The line up of guests includes soul legend Bobby Womack, The Bee Gees’ Barry Gibb, Snoop Dogg, Mos Def, The Horrors and the Syrian National Orchestra. And De La Soul’s Posdnuos revealed in May that the hip-hop crew had returned to the Gorillaz jungle after the success of Feel Good Inc to record two songs – Electric Shock and Sloped Tropics – for possible inclusion on Plastic Beach.
Albarn recently told The Guardian newspaper that the new album reflects “dystopian, British melancholia” and is “the most pop record I [have] ever made.”
