Don’t expect Busta Rhymes to shower you with his supply of water when he tours Australia in February for the Good Vibrations Festival, with an incident from six years back having cost the rapper a cool $75,000.
Alex Duncan was a punter at a Busta Rhymes show in Albany, New York in 2003 when it was announced that the headliner Fabolous had cancelled his set. Not impressed, Duncan decided to leave the show, apparently provoking Rhymes’ anger.
Rhymes reportedly shouted, “I’m not good for you?” at the departing Fabolous fan, and then took things one step far – in the eyes of Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Donald Kurtz – spraying Duncan with water and throwing two plastic bottles at him.
Six years after the incident the consequences of the ‘attack’ haven’t left Duncan, who claims that the incident caused psychological damage and that Rhymes now haunts his dreams. After reportedly missing seven court dates Rhymes has finally been ordered to pay $75,000 in damages.
Not satisfied with just winning the ridiculous claim, lawyer Ron Hart took things further by joking “it looks like we busted up Busta’s rhyme”. It’s a statement almost as embarrassing as the American legal system!
