We know you’ve probably been looking for a communal dance craze to replace ‘The Nutbush’ and ‘The Macarena’ for a while. After all that shit is so 1973 and 1995 (respectively). It’s time to prepare yourself for the next big dancefloor fad, presumably coming to a nightclub/school dance near you sometime in early 2010… Sidney Samson presents ‘The Riverside’.
Samson’s 2009 club and radio hit Riverside – already criminally overplayed – looks set to receive a new lease on life early next year, with an updated vocal edit nearing release featuring rapper Wizard Sleeve. Dubbed Riverside (Let’s Go!), in preparation for the ensuing hysteria Samson’s UK label Data Records have unveiled their own instructional video for any groovers wanting to learn the song’s intensely complex dance moves.
First you’ll have to master the ‘Arm Down’, then the ‘Elbow Out’, followed closely by ‘Elbows Out’ (don’t get confused here, note the ‘s’), before throwing in a ‘Grind!’ then ending with a ‘Put Em In The Air’. Apparently you can even ‘Freestyle!’ the whole thing, and they’ve had no shortage of people willing to submit YouTube footage as a testament to this.
If you have a few minutes spare check out the step by step video guide below, it’s truly inspiring stuff. Then, if you’re still hungry for me, you can head here and upload a photo of your own ugly mug to “Riverside Yourself Motherf****r”. That’s right, star in your own dance music video. You even get to wear a leotard thingy!
Don’t forget Sidney Samson is touring Australia over summer, so you can get yourself along to one of his shows and do ‘The Riverside’ in person. Check out ITM Whatson for dates.
