Santigold has announced that she will join a charity expedition to climb Mt Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. The trek, set to take place in January, is part of the Summit on the Summit program; an initiative designed by Grammy-nominated vocalist Kenna to help bring an end to the worldwide water crisis.
Gold is looking forward to the physical and emotional challenge of the climb, on top of the pure adventure of what she says will be a “once in a lifetime opportunity.” In a statement to the press she expressed her hope that the endeavour will help to change the lives of over one billion people in the world who currently do not have access to safe, clean, drinkable water.
“Something as basic as clean water should be accessible to every single living creature on this planet. I don’t think that many people, especially in the United States, realise what a huge problem this is in many areas of the world, and so I think just drawing awareness to the problem, will be a step in the right direction.”
Santi will be climbing Africa’s highest peak alongside celebrities like Jessica Biel, Lupe Fiasco and Melbourne actress Isabel Lucas.
