Numerous DJs flying into and out of London faced massive travel problems last weekend as massive snowfalls prompted scores of flight cancellations at all of London’s main airports. Many used Twitter to post real-time reports on delays and complaints, including US house jock Erick Morillo. “What does one do for 5 hours at Heathrow?” the Pacha resident Twittered on Friday morning. “A little bit of snow in London = chaos,” he complained.
Progressive house star Dave Seaman posted a whole series of messages which began with an optimistic Tweet at 6am. “On way to Gatwick for my flight to Dubai & just heard on the radio lots of flights are delayed or cancelled due to the snow. Wish me luck,” Dave asked.
By 10am, his mood darkening considerably, he messaged ‘having a mare’ (nightmare) cheering up by midday when he posted; ‘In a miraculous turn of events my flight’s now leaving 3 hours late from Heathrow instead of Gatwick. I am now going to make my gig in Dubai’. However, by 2pm though he was not so sure. “Just when I thought it was safe to say I’m gonna make my gig tonight, now there’s another delay! All the way to Dubai for nothing? Maybe,” said Dave.
Drum & bass/electro star John B posted a similarly large number of Tweets detailing his weather related troubles, though was considerably luckier and managed to catch his flight to Prague. “Made it to Heathrow in good time. M4 (motorway) clear but people driving like dicks,” he complained. “Flights seem OK- not massive delays.”
Good Times legend Norman Jay sounded wholly unconcerned as he set off for Belgium, wisely opting to travel by train. “Just boarded the Eurostar bound for Brussels. Heard it’s -5 below over there today.. Brrrr!”
