About to descend on Australian shores for the Summadayze national tour, Christmas has come a few days early for Sharam of Deep Dish fame with the news he’s been voted as most popular Essential Mix for 2009 by listeners of Pete Tong’s globally renowned BBC Radio 1 show.

The online poll, which opened early in December, called for listeners to nominate their favorite Essential Mix of year. As always, the selection of artists to vote on was of the highest quality, and Sharam came out on top ahead of Subfocus, Luciano & Deadmau5, Fake Blood and Gui Boratto.

To celebrate the win Radio 1 will re-broadcast Sharam’s mix in the early hours of Boxing Day (UK time). It’ll be preceded by a special edition Warehouse Project mix from Calvin Harris and show host Pete Tong, so if you’re feeling sprightly it’ll be well worth tuning in online.

2009’s top five most popular Essential Mixes:

1. Sharam
2. Subfocus
3. Luciano & Deadmau5 at Wonderland Ibiza
4. Fake Blood
5. Gui Boratto

Fake Blood and Gui Boratto's EM's were awesome. But Sharam? Wow. Didn't expect that!

No wonder democracy is over-rated, his EM was just a waste of time...... Subfocus, Luciano (only) and Fake Blood were far more worthy, though most worthy of all was Jamie Jones
