Love him or hate him, there’s no denying 2009 was a massive year for French house fiend David Guetta, with his album One Love and accompanying swathe of catchier-than-an-STI singles dominating radio, clubs and the charts. Since its release in August it has topped the charts in 17 countries worldwide. No mean feat for a ‘dance act’.

Not to be outdone, 2009 was also the year Guetta attained his highest ever DJ Mag Top 100 ranking, moving up two places to feature at #3 behind Dutch trance titans Armin van Buuren and Tiesto. Preparing to head down under for the Future Music Festival in a few months time, in an interesting turn of events Guetta’s massive 2009 won him praise from the very artists who ranked ahead of him.

In an interview with Canadian newspaper the National Post published in late December, Guetta explained the unlikely scenario. “You know what’s funny? Both Armin and Tiesto called me to say, ‘This year, you’re the No. 1.’ Both of them. That was really nice of them – but they were wrong.” Now, who said DJs weren’t a modest bunch?

Nobody has hearted this, be the first Be the first!

I think they have all paid their dues & fair call; the end tear for some producers is always to reach a wider audience & unfortunately when this happens they lose some fans who lean towards more of an underground sound. So you probably thinking right now

@thursday - It really does. Every. Single. Time. I count the amount of requests I get for it every time I'm playing. At least 3 on average.

You all have no clue, you should be thanking guetta for showing kayne-jz how popular dance music is done. Think of it as a war, our side just hit back. Go look at his past, his more underground then any of u wannabes.

elektrobotic - by all means people who've worked hard should have success and shouldn't have to spend their lives living under a bridge just to maintain some chin stroker's sense of 'underground'. but there's achieving success and then there's 'sexy bi

... how?! my god. i hate this trend of putting rap and hip hop lyrics in dance music. Then again, i tend to dislike vocals in my dance music altogether. It almost always seems like an afterthought. "Here's a track, now lets get some celebrity vocalist to
