Carl Cox; one of the dance music’s most iconic figures. Global Underground; one of the dance scene’s most enduring record labels. What happens when the two combine? Preparing for the 38th installment of their seminal GU mix series, it’s surprisingly to consider this will be the first time Carl Cox has manned the controls for Global Underground.

Although in the past the CDs have been themed to cities around the globe, for Cox’s GU journey he’s decided to instead put the focus on a desert. That’s got to be another all time first, surely? It’s not just any desert, thought, as Cox will shine the light on the Black Rock Desert in America, where each year 50,000 people converge for the annual dance pilgrimage that is the Burning Man Festival.

“There’s loads of people out there who have no idea,” said Cox, when explaining his reasoning behind the GU38: Black Rock Desert mix, as Burning Man is certainly a festival with a difference. Accordingly, Cox has compiled a mix that’s equally special, with tracks, remixes and exclusives from some of techno’s most revered names.

The event itself is entirely self-sustained and makes no impact on the local environment, as at the end of the weeklong event the natural landscape is left in its original state, with the thousands of partygoers leaving the desert with no trace of their presence. “It’s been going on for 20 years. And I do think there are like-minded people who would like to share my experience. It justifies the release for GU. I hope people see it as genuine.”

You can see a video preview of the release below, and if you’re in Melbourne be sure to get your booty along to the official Australian launch at Billboard on February 26th.

I'd say it's a victory for both Christian and myself, we both worked hard, and it paid off. Thanks for being a prick about it...
