The nominations for the 2010 Brit Awards were announced this week, sans the Best Dance Artist category that was revoked a couple years back. However there is a fair representation of the electronic music scene, which marks dance music’s regression back into the mainstream.
In the country right now for the Big Day Out, Calvin Harris and Dizzee Rascal were both nominated for Best British Male Solo Artist, with Dizzee pegged for Best British Album along with Lily Allen. Friendly Fires – here next month for Good Vibrations – and La Roux – here in March for the Bacardi Express – are in competition for Best British Breakthrough Act. They were also nominated in Best British Group (Friendly Fires) and Best British Single (La Roux).
Modular darling Ladyhawke is up for Best International Female Solo Artist, while the label’s newest signing Delphic are also included in the Critics Choice category. Empire of the Sun snagged two nominations ahead of their Future Music Festival tour; International Album and International Breakthrough Act. Finally, last but definitely not least, Melbourne export Daniel Merriweather has been given a nod for International Breakthrough Act.
