Proving himself once again as a full-blown dance-pop renaissance man, French maestro David Guetta has triumphed at this year’s Grammy awards night in Los Angeles, taking home an early award for best remixed recording (whatever that means) for his smash single with Kelly Rowland When Love Takes Over.
Nominated for five Grammys in 2010, Guetta’s win in the pre-telecast ceremony saw the Future Music Festival hero in high spirits, taking the podium to signal the arrival of dance music on the American music landscape.
“I’m not a real trained musician, and I cannot write music…[but] I got five nominations so it means that finally the DJ culture and the dance culture is growing in America, so thank you for seeing that,” the Frenchman gushed according to Billboard.
Meanwhile the awards ceremony is still in progress so Guetta will likely bag a few more awards – specifically for his inescapable collaboration with Black Eyed Peas I Gotta Feeling – but a few other ITM favourites have performed well including Jay-Z who grabbed the gong for best solo rap performance for D.O.A. (Death Of Autotune) and French indie crew Phoenix who received the nod for best alternative album. In between this Taylor Swift snagged enough awards to pack out her pick-up truck and Lady Gaga won for best dance recording (no joke), so it’s a typical year of Grammys weirdness. Fun!
