It’s been a nearly intolerable wait for updates in the lead up to the release of Disney’s tech-epic feature film Tron Legacy this December, and more importantly the accompanying Daft Punk produced soundtrack that will see the French robots riding light-cycles back into our hearts. That excruciating wait time hasn’t been made any easier by the wave of imitators and pranksters that’ve popped up recently, trying to fool fans with Daft forgeries, but thankfully some more nuggets of tantalizing information about Daft Punk’s involvement in Tron Legacy have come our way to ease the stress.

In an interview with MTV recently, Tron Legacy director Joseph Kosinski gushed openly about his admiration for the French duo, revealing a few choice pieces of information about working with Daft Punk, namely that the pair of Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem Christo beat out several other electronic artists for the role, and that they began work on their score several months before the film even began shooting.

“I’m a huge electronic-music fan,” Kosinski said of the reason he ultimately chose Daft Punk as the film’s composers. “This is a film where there was a lot of interest from different electronic bands that I follow to work on the film. I felt it was important, just as the first film was so forward-thinking visually and Wendy Carlos’ music was so innovative, I felt we had to do the same thing here…I set up a meeting with Daft Punk. These guys take Tron very seriously. Obviously, Tron was a huge influence on them. It was almost like they were interviewing me to make sure that I was going to hold up to the Tron legacy. But the more we talked, we realized that creatively, we were totally synced up,” he explained. “I’ve been working on it with them for over a year and a half. I don’t know of a movie where you’re working on the soundtrack months before you start filming. The level of integration between the music and the film is incredibly strong.”

Oh, sorry, we’d stop drooling if we weren’t so excited. To make this news even better, today a couple of new stills from Tron Legacy have been teased out to the internet, and boy does this thing looks sensational. There’s no sign of Daft Punk getting their thespian on at this stage, but some nice shots of the film’s costume design and Jeff Bridges wearing some kind of laser disc on his back. Check them out in the gallery below.
