Just like The Bloody Beetroots and their new Death Crew 77 live project, it’s a natural next step for popular DJ acts to make the leap to a live act, and word is out that next on the list is none other than Canadian turntable maestro A-Trak who announced late last week that he’s been prepping a live project with drum wizard Travis Barker.
Revealing the new project on his blog, A-Trak explained how he and the Blink 182 veteran had been eager to work together for some time before the joint act finally materialised, saying “I’ve been itching to work on a new live project for a while so I’m really excited about this.”
Of course, this isn’t Barker’s first collaboration with a globe trotting DJ, with the drummer famously hooking up with the late DJ AM for their decks and drums live project that rocked Coachella last year. Clearly aware of the shadow hanging over the new project, A-Trak addressed his emotions about stepping into DJ AM’s one of a kind sneakers.
“Of course one can’t help but think of DJ AM at this time. All I can say is I’m proud to fill those shoes,” he wrote. “What I’m doing with Travis will be considerably different, which I think is important. I can’t wait to put my own spin on the concept.”
The project is set to debut live in just a few weeks time at Los Angeles’ Roxy on March 9th and 10th, and we’ll definitely be checking for updates on what we can expect from the A-Trak/Barker pairing before then. Given the frequency of A-Trak’s Australian tours, we might at last get to see this live setup. Here’s hoping anyway, in the meantime, check out some footage from Barker’s set at Coachella last year with DJ AM.
