Hip hop icons – and soon to be Broadway musical subjectsRun-DMC will be back Raising Hell in 2010.

The New York crew has just been announced on the line-up for the third annual Roots Picnic in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania this June. The festival – curated by the world’s greatest hip hop band The Roots – secured Public Enemy for last year’s gathering, so the precedent was set.

As well as acting as backing band for Run-DMC, the Roots members will air a couple of side-projects: Questlove’s drums-and-DJ combo with Jazzy Jeff, and Black Thought’s Money Making Jam Boys posse. The rest of the line-up so far includes well-heeled Brooklynites Vampire Weekend and Stones Throw soul man Mayer Hawthorne.

brenly - jam master j was shot and killed, but reverend run and darryl mac will still be able to rock out - the roots will be the band behind them, instead of having a dj.
