A full two months before the release of their next album this May and already DFA linchpins LCD Soundsystem are preparing their swan song, with band ringleader James Murphy explaining that this new record will indeed be the band’s last.
As reported by The Daily Swarm overnight, the LCD head honcho stopped by BBC radio to chat about the album, with Murphy telling radio jockey Zane Lowe he was comfortable putting his modern disco outfit to rest after this record.
“I feel good about it and really positive about it, it’s not like a negative thing. I think that its nice to feel like it’s the last one and we’ll tour really hard and then go do something else,” Murphy said.
According to Murphy, the decision to draw the curtain on LCD Soundsystem came shortly after he wrapped recording sessions on the still untitled LP, claiming “when I got back to New York it was getting to the end of it and all the other things started happening the typical ‘you gotta get your artwork in’ and all this other stuff. And I just decided it’s been a while since I wanted to worry about any of that stuff. So, as much as I love making the record and going on tour and everything like that , I was like ‘man If I have to worry about this stuff anymore…’,” he said. “So it just seemed like perfect we’ll make this the last record and we’ll do exactly what we want and go out happy.”
Of course this isn’t the first time Murphy has prematurely pulled the plug on LCD Soundsystem, with the disco don putting the project on (not-so) ‘permanent hold’ back in 2008. And then he said he was going ‘classic rock’ as well, which turned out to be another dupe. So who knows what’s next for Murphy and his LCD cohort, all we know is that we’ll be savouring their grand finale come May.
