Now this is something we’d take over Miley Cyrus making an apparent ‘techno’ album. Wise ITMers might remember back in 2009 we reported on the news that the lead singer for UK buzz band Bloc Party, Kele Okereke would be veering off into club territory with his first solo release away from his band, copping some club moves from the likes of Spank Rock producer XXXChange as well as Hudson Mohawke and also Cassius’ mastermind Philippe Zdar.
Now more details about the record have emerged, including the beguiling title The Boxer, not to mention a release date for the whole record – that’d be June 25th, mark your Bratz diaries, guys – and even a tracklisting to boot.
“It was just me and an engineer,” Okereke explained of the record’s development cycle. “I plugged in synths that I had no idea what they would do. I began programming drum beats, which I had never done before. It was completely back to the drawing board. It was exciting and terrifying. In most cases I sat down, pulled a drum beat out of nowhere and arranged stuff around that. This was as exciting to me as the first time I picked up a guitar.”
The progression towards the club is a no brainer for the UK belter, being no stranger to dance music, Okereke has lent his voice to tracks from The Chemical Brothers and Tiesto, and Bloc Party alone have had the remix treatment from the best of the best including SebastiAn, Diplo, Boys Noize, MSTRKRFT and Armand Van Helden.
Peep the tracklist below and stay tuned for even more news on Kele’s crossover soon.
