As well as rocking out in their Death Crew 77 live incarnation, mixing Ministry of Sound compilations and veering off into hardcore punk side-projects with Steve Aoki, Italian stallions The Bloody Beetroots have announced they’ll be adding another feather to their blossoming cap, that of, uh, opera stars.
Announcing their opera ambitions on the Death Crew 77 blog recently, head ‘Beetroot Bob Rifo revealed that he’ll be staging a grand opera in Cannes, France following the completion of the band’s Creamfields concerts.
Co-created with Bennet Pimpinella and Alessandro Chiodo, Rifo has named the opera Dadaism “Burnin’ Emina” which is almost as strange as the idea of a Bloody Beetroots opera, describing the work in the blog post as “the groundwork to abstract art and sound poetry, a starting point for performance art, a prelude to postmodernism, an influence on pop art, a celebration of antiart to be later embraced for anarcho-political uses in the 1960s and the movement that lay the foundation for Surrealism.”
Well that clears that up! With the opera set to debut on May 18th and Rifo telling us in a recent interview that he’s also planning an orchestral offshoot for later in the year, we wonder just how many roast Beetroot pies the Italian lads their fingers in. That pondering lead us to the gallery below with a few ideas of where we’ll see the ‘Beetroots’ venom masks pop up next. Take it away, Snap! gallery…
