Currently ranking a close second behind the Daft Punk assisted Tron Legacy on our geek-watchlist of 2010’s most awesome looking movies, Jon Favreau’s follow up to the 2007 hit Iron Man, uh, Iron Man 2 is just a week away from Australian release. Yet even at this late stage of the game the film continues to heat up, with news emerging today that Iron Man 2 will feature a borderline creepy cameo from recently deceased celebrity spinner DJ AM.
As pointed out by FilmDrunk, before his accidental drug overdose last year, the high flying DJ AM (or Adam Goldstein away from the decks) shot a nifty little cameo in the blockbuster superhero flick in which he appears as himself DJing a party at Tony Stark’s pad.
“There are a number of celebrity cameos in Iron Man 2 that will inspire some audience giggles,” a report from the LA Times stated. “Bill O’Reilly has a memorable moment, for instance, and comics icon Stan Lee shows up with a particularly inspired disguise, but there’s also one that might be met with some gasps: The late DJ AM is at the centre of a key scene in the film, a fact that gives the summer blockbuster a bittersweet backbeat.” DJ puns are the best, right?
According to the same news piece, director Jon Favreau had the final say on whether or not to cut the cameo from the departed DJ, ultimately choosing to pay tribute to AM and keep the scene in Iron Man 2.
“We tried to make it respectful, and for people who know him, they’ll get a kick out of it and for people who don’t, it will sort of slide by without much notice,” the director said.
In any event, AM’s ghostly cameo shouldn’t make a huge impact on the film as a whole. Much like Deadmau5’s recent turn in Gossip Girl we doubt that an appearance from the late DJ AM will distract us from Mickey Rourke being a mangled bad-arse and Scarlett Johansson butchering a Russian accent.
And because we never thought we’d have an excuse to post a video like this.
