Leftfield extend their comeback

2010 has been a pretty bumper year for dance music nostalgia, with fans already reeling in the years with the return of UK icons Orbital to Australian turf earlier in the year and even home-grown rave heroes Itch-E & Scratch-E – who took the feature spot in our momentous 100th podcast – rising from the grave to thrill us all once again. Also recently added to that list was super-loud British act Leftfield who announced their comeback plans back in February.

While our original news piece on the UK duo’s return confirmed that they’d start out playing some select festivals, news is now out that the group’s pipes are officially dusted off and they’ll be extending their live plans right across the European summer, with warm-up gigs happening in Britain before hitting big festivals like the LED Festival and the super-sized Creamfields event.

The move to extend the Leftfield comeback tour comes from overwhelming fan support to the tour, which remaining founder Neil Barnes said had blown him away in an interview with BBC News.

“I have been completely blown away by it, I can’t believe it,” Barnes explained. “I wasn’t sure at first, thinking ‘who wants to listen to Leftfield again?’ But it has spurred me on to put this show together and give people what they want.”

With a raft of live dates already on the cards and those ones continuing to grow into more, we’re of course left wondering if Leftfield will pull an Orbital on us and hit Australia for a triumphant tour. From Barnes’ interview quotes it would seem as though the global demand is there, but he’s not rushing into it just yet.

“An autumn tour is on the cards. I am getting tweets asking about it, and it has spurred me on,” Barnes said before going onto explain that he wants to “concentrate on these gigs”. On the subject of making new material, Barnes was similarly cautious, saying that “the way the tracks have been put together is new, so it will feel like a live experience and experimentation. It would be wrong of me to do new stuff, they want to hear representation of the tracks we are known for. If that goes well, maybe I could do something new.”

I don't suppose it really matters, but does "remaining founder Neil Barnes" mean that Paul Daley isn't actually a part of all this? Isn't that a bit wrong? Like only having one Chemical Brother...

e_h_montano : hasn't seemed to stop Empire of the Sun, has it? :) :) I agree, it would be way better to have Paul involved too, but if the choice is between seeing Neil or nothing, then I'd go see Neil.
