Love her or hate her, pocket-sized UK rapper Lady Sovereign has come out as a lesbian. Always full of controversy, rumours began circulating about Lady S-O-Veeee when she toured Australia last year for the Parklife festival and was arrested for spitting in the face of a club bouncer at Brisbane gay club, The Beat.

Speaking to lesbian magazine Diva, Sovereign confirmed that she is a lesbian. “You can’t hide away forever. It’s just stupid and now I’ve come out I feel a lot more comfortable with myself. But it was a bit scary back then, because some people do have horrible opinions.”

The 24-year-old first confessed on Britain’s Celebrity Big Brother that she had enjoyed same-sex trysts and tells the magazine that she would have come out earlier, had she not been persuaded by publicists to keep it under wraps.

“Magazines would always ask about but would get stopped by my publicists. It was my choice, too, because I was a bit worried about it – but now I don’t really give a s**t.” Classic Sov.
