We know the weekend headaches are only just wearing off, but you might remember back in March ITM reported that beloved Scottish DJ duo, Optimo, would be pulling the pin on their same-named club night after twelve long years of weekly parties.
While the chorus of Optimo fans voiced their disappointment at the closing of the club night, it turns out that that very outpouring of support for the Optimo way of clubbing inspired the duo of JD Twitch and JG Wilkes to keep the dream alive, announcing over the weekend (via Daily Swarm) that they’re kicking off a new weekly bash called Hung Up! at the Sub Club.
“Keen to inject new energy and ideas into a fresh Sunday venture, we intend to hand over the deejay duties and the direction of the party groove to a series of our contemporaries. Hung Up! will be an event based primarily on a rolling billing of guest DJs drawn from our DJs friends and peers in the Glasgow clubbing community and augmented by live performances from bands selected by the Optimo team,” a statement from the pair read. “The intention is for us to curate and cultivate a new event, one which will rarely include the two of us DJing together. Hung Up! will evolve through a looser, varied and rotating line up of guest DJs and live performers where we will drop in individually to play with – or indeed hand over the night entirely to – these guests.”
The first installment of Hung Up! should be underway right now actually, with JG Wilkes presiding over the debut event. Following on from that, the Optimo crew are already promising some eclectic guests ahead including Jackmaster, David Barbarossa and Hushpuppy.
“The music, the decoration, the image, the sounds and the ethos will be changing on Sundays as we explore the possibilities and opportunities that creating a fresh start bring,” the statement continued. “But the one thing that won’t change is the quality of what will be on offer. The party lives on. Fuck Shit Up!”
