Fans of Norwegian electronic craftsmen Royksopp might recall the announcement that following their triumphant 2009 record Junior, the electro-pop duo would be following that record up in April 2010 with the appropriately titled Senior LP. Well, it’s almost June now and still we don’t have that companion album, leaving us all to wonder just what the hell happened, Royksopp?
The group have today addressed the mysterious absence of Senior, sending out a message to fans with an apology for the record’s delayed release and claiming that a raft of issues with their record label representation forced them push back the album.
“As you all know, record companies have been having an “interesting” time lately, to say the least,” the statement from the duo offered. “Because of this, to ensure the best possible release scenario for Senior, we have gone through many changes on exactly who we’re releasing it with. But now it’s all come together.”
According to the message, Senior is now set to finally see the light of day “at the end of August”, with the duo hinting that the record will come out under a new channel following their past label issues.
“Senior is a very special release to us, and we would never release it without making sure it was in the best possible hands,” the group continued. “In a way, it’s almost fitting that it being a truly unique album, it would have a difficult start in life.”
We’ll keep our ears to the ground for more deets about the record and (fingers crossed) a local tour, but whilst we wait you can get a refresher with the video for Happy Up Here embedded below.
