Whilst there were undoubtedly a fair few heckler’s lurking about the UK star’s summer Big Day Out tour doing their best to convince Calvin Harris to tread a new career path, we don’t think this is what they had in mind.
As revealed at the ongoing International Music Summit, Calvin Harris is extending his claw-like-grip on commercial dance music, assuming the helm of A&R for the Deconstruction Records, recently resurrected and bank-rolled by Sony.
“The deals are better now for signing dance acts,” Deconstruction’s current chief Mike Pickering explained. “Because dance acts have everything in place including merchandise and apps, whereas a bands don’t…which is what the kids want these days. DJs are becoming the most sought-after and looked-after artists with Sony at the moment”.
Getting to work immediately, Calvin’s already snapped up a couple of choice signings apparently, with the UK electro-popper bringing in Axwell’s Axtone imprint as well as Serge Santiago and Tom Neville’s Retro/Grade partnership. Not too shabby, Mr Harris.
