Another of the big international festivals making us Aussies jealous this year was the 2010 Movement festival in Detroit, which got under way in the States this weekend – and should be wrapping up very shortly too. Always a primer for some of the biggest and talented artists in dance music, the 2010 Movement festival booked a super impressive lineup this time around, including Derrick May, Booka Shade, Michael Mayer and A-Trak among others. But festival organisers hit a road block over the weekend as major festival draw Ricardo Villalobos was forced to cancel his appearance.
As reported by The Daily Swarm over the weekend, word came in from the Cocoon crew that Villalobos was unable to attend the festival, having failed to obtain the appropriate visa documentation to enter the US.
“Ricardo did not receive his Working VISA back in time due to US immigration Authorities at abroad consulates,” the statement read. “Even with precocious legal support from the US as well as from Germany he still wasn’t able to obtain the Working VISA due to unexpected bureaucratic obstacles.”
Though fans were justifiably bummed to miss out on Villalobos’ first set at Movement since striking gold in 2002, festival organisers were quick to rope in the esteemed Richie Hawtin as replacement. Already playing the festival under the Plastikman moniker, Hawtin pulled double duty as himself with an extra special three hour set. Not too shabby, right?
