It’s been a bumper week for Daft Punk news here on inthemix, and that’s putting it mildly. As well as debuting the brand new trailer for Tron Legacy which the French duo are scoring, on Monday we posted up a collection of audio grabs from that score, with ITMers responding excitedly for Daft Punk’s move into an electronic-meets-cinematic sound. Fans aren’t the only ones heaping praise on the robots though, with Tron Legacy director, Joseph Kosinski, revealing that Daft Punk’s input has been ‘integral’ to the film’s development.

As picked up by Digital Spy, Kosinski’s high praise for the duo comes from the Tron Legacy panel at last week’s Comic-Con geekapalooza, with the director emphasising the importance of Daft Punk’s work on the film, saying that they have successfully blurred “the lines between sound design and music”.

“I’ve been working with Daft Punk for almost three years on this film,” Kosinski said of Daft Punk’s involvement in the long-gestating Tron Legacy. “It’s a new direction for them, it’s a combination of orchestral, electronic and granulate sound.”

Other interesting news to spill out of Comic-Con included a first look at Daft Punk’s starring role in the film, as captured in the picture above by /Film. Dorks like us will recall the rumour mill churning that the robots would have a cameo in the film and it’s now been revealed that that will take place in the End Of The Line club in the Tron universe where the duo will fittingly enough be spinning tunes. And they even get some fancy new costumes to go along with the Tron Legacy look. Hawt.

Tron Legacy comes to Australia on December 16th, for all the info on the film check out ITM’s bank vault of articles in the All About Tron Legacy page and here it is one more time, the new trailer!
