While we all love the internet for the many gifts that it has bestowed on humanity – read: Twitter, lolcats and, uh, inthemix – there’s always going to be some niggling little things that get our goat up. Take for instance the increase of fake and imposter producers passing their material off as someone else’s only to play innocent when shit hits the fan – see the debacle surrounding some supposedly new Justice material from 2009 for an example of what we mean. That same thing has happened to French icons Daft Punk once again, with a sneaky YouTuber posting what they claim are new tracks from Daft Punk’s long awaited Tron Legacy soundtrack.
As tipped off by Pitchfork, Daft Punk fans got a little excited when a YouTube user, alexdaft26, set up a channel allegedly hosting the entirety of the Daft Punk-penned score for the Tron sequel, with videos titled to match sequences and scenes in the film. However, that excitement was quelled when people from Daft Punk’s camp told the indie website that the new ‘leaks’ were indeed ‘fake’.
You can hear the tracks for yourself below, but really, there couldn’t have been any real doubt about their authenticity. Last week of course, we showed off some legitimate new tunes from the Daft Punk soundtrack, as unveiled by the studio behind the film, Disney, which found Daft Punk mixing the organic with the synthetic and taking their craft to a more cinematic level, whereas the hoax tracks come off as dull, derivative and something that Thomas Bangalter could sneeze out in his sleep.
Compare the tracks below with ones over here and check out the sublimely sexy new trailer for Tron Legacy below. After all this fuss, we wonder how the Daft Punk soundtrack will stack up to the hype come release time.
